Working Mother Stereotype of the Day

by elizabeth on August 5th, 2008

Through a series of plans falling through, I’m awarding myself the “Working Mother Stereotype of the Day” award.

As I said before, the next couple of weeks are always a disaster for us, childcare-wise because my husband is a teacher and he returns to school before the kids do.

Additionally, my oldest starts high school this week and she goes back before the younger two as well.

Both my husband and daughter are at school this morning and I was going to go to work late and it would leave the boys (ages 12 and 6) home alone for a couple of hours until my husband got home, which is OK.

However, I’ve been sick and have missed a lot of work recently, and I suddenly remembered that I had to have blood drawn this morning at a certain time.

I got dressed, told my middle child to feed the younger one, stay inside, eat something that’s not candy and try not to burn anything down, and I raced out the door.

I’ve spoken with them, and they are fine, but I’m guessing you’re in one of two camps here:

1. “I can relate.”
2. “You did what? You should be at home raising your children, why did you even have them?”

Either way, I just brought to life every chick-lit book or movie of the week about working mothers.

Thank you. Thank you very much.
