Up late on a weeknight

by elizabeth on February 5th, 2008

tired.jpgI’m sitting here trying to think of what to write before the power goes out again.

We’re “under the gun” (a very popular meteorologist phrase tonight) with tornadoes and severe weather.

We’ve got the kids in the den, and, the whole evening has been very unusual.

Then, it occurred to me that my current (live! from my computer!) issue as a working parent is what do you do when you know you’re going to be up a large part of the night, we may have to wake the kids up again, yet everyone will likely need to go to school and work as usual in the morning?

Do you let everyone sleep in, and, go to work and school late when everyone else was likely up all night, too, or, do you just forge ahead and try to get to bed earlier the next night?

Perhaps you take the kids to school, come back home and sleep and go to work late?

Do tell what your plan is when everyone is up too late for a weeknight.

    Caffeine, and lots of it!

Actually, with hubby out of town last night, I decided that our daughter and I would just sleep on the futon in our basement and not worry about moving down there if we got a tornado warning. It wasn’t a very good night’s sleep, but we were up and ready to go when there was a late decision for a 2 hour school delay, which then turned into a cancellation. Too late to go back to bed, unfortunately!

I agree with Bluegrass mama - we sleep a little later, get lots of caffeine (even the teens) and we promise to go bed earlier the next night

Basically, we just forge ahead. Of course, with teens, they are a little easier to roust and get moving (believe it or not) because hanging at school is way better than at home. Since we both work out of the house, they need to be away as soon as possible. Us, well, we have the option of crashing again!
