Unusual work excuses
The beauty of being a parent is that you don’t have to put a lot of energy into thinking of how to call in to work, since, there’s just not that many different ways to say “sick child”.
I used to be in management, and, I’ve pretty much heard that and all the excuses for missing work, from being “still drunk” to the dead grandmother x4, but, some of these unusual work excuses are indeed unique and worth a chuckle.

When I was in high school (I guess I lived where parents would keep their kids home from school to work on the farm), the school gave us a list of unacceptable excuses for missing school. The one that sticks in my mind is “digging potatoes.” I’m happy to say that I never missed school to dig potatoes.
