Travel checklist for guilt trip

by elizabeth on September 26th, 2007

suitcase.jpgI’m currently out of town for work.

Although I have to do it, and, some things are even enjoyable about it, it can be quite hectic to get everything ready to go.

Despite the fact that I know everything will be fine, I feel like I have to do certain things before I leave.

Actually, some of them are just the usual travel rituals I perform such as cleaning the den (no, I have no idea why the den must be ship shape before I leave town), while other things I do to appease my guilt, even though there’s nothing to feel guilty about.

However, before I leave town and leave my husband at home with the kids and the daily routine, I try to:

1. Get the laundry done, and, make sure there are school uniforms, socks, and, clothes for the week.
2. Pack sports bags for games and practices.
3. Stock the refrigerator.
4. Get kids lunch money together for the days I’ll be gone.
5. Cook one or two meals so it won’t be so crazy on school nights
6. Make after school arrangements when all 3 kids have to be 3 different places

Though I have control issues to spare, it’s not that I think they wouldn’t get done (ahem #4), but, I try to do these things to be polite to my husband and make it a little easier for him.

Ah, travel guilt - been there, had that, told myself that there’s nothing to feel guilty about, forgot that quickly:)

I have post-trip guilt things I do - like make my husband go out on his own or watch too much sports on TV. Apparently, according to him, the post-trip guilt stuff is good (for him:) - but goes away too quickly!

So, others feel this guilt too?! I am leaving next Saturday for a two week business trip to London. The guilt is just about to overtake me at times! Plus, stocking hubby and our two year old daughter up for two weeks is becoming a time consuming thing! I was beginning to think that this guilt I had was just me…glad to know it is not!
