To-Do List Grandiosity
Have you ever had a day off, and, fallen victim to “To-Do List Grandiosity”?
Oh, yes, I have.
Somehow, if I ever get a day off from work that doesn’t involve a field trip, or, a sick kid, my to-do list is longer than Paris Hilton’s extensions.
And? It’s not just long, it’s bold, too.
Re-insulate the attic? Okey dokey.
Cook meals, and, freeze for the next month? Sure, I’m stoked, let me at it.
Organize every room in the house, and, install cool shelving systems? Let me just get my screwdriver.
Pave the driveway, and, landscape the front yard? Where can I rent a steamroller?
You get the idea. I don’t just plan to get my regular chores done, I plan to revolutionize my home experience.
As hard as it is to believe, I don’t get all that stuff done before it’s time to pick up the kids from school. Sometimes, I don’t even do much more than walk around in circles trying to decide what to do before my time runs out.
I don’t think I compile these lists thinking I’ll get those things done by myself in 8 hours, but, somehow making them helps me feel better, and, organize my thoughts about long term projects we should plan.
I’m learning to make some more realistic plans for myself for my time off, but, if I were really honest with myself, the list would read:
1. Go to Target. Make sure there’s a Starbuck’s.
2. Use computer.
3. Eat cookies from pantry.

Oh, how I’ve been there - in fact, right before I read this, I was thinking I should write up my to-do list - and then decided that by the time I was finished, I’d have no time to actually do what’s on it:)
I truly believed I’d have a day off.

I have everyday off and my list looks pretty much like yours. The second one that is, actually that is pretty much what I did today, except the target thing.

To-Do list grandiosity…
Reminds me of one of my favorite articles on the Onion:

When you’re done reinsulating your attic, can you come over and clean my fridge handles? Actually, I wanted to thank you for that tip, since my fridge handles are cleaner than they’ve been in years.
