Thoughts on traveling for work

by elizabeth on September 17th, 2007

suitcase.jpgI’ve got to go out of town for business next week, and, I’m kind of excited. It’s just a routine trip, nothing special or exciting. Yes, I’ll miss my family very much, even if I’m only going to be gone a couple of days. But, I admit I’m looking forward to having some time for myself.

Even though it’s for business, I’m like a little kid when I travel. Since I don’t do it often, I love to fly, stay in a hotel and go sight seeing. Oh yeah, there’s actual work, too, but, it just gets in my way of ordering room service, and, watching movies.

Every now and then, I feel guilty for being gone during the week, leaving my husband alone with the morning and evening routines which can be brutal, but, it’s better than being gone the weekend, and, leaving him to the kid sports routines. But, they’ll be fine.

So, I’ll go, and wish the work part wasn’t getting in the way of my traveling adventure part. I’ll get little shampoo bottles, and, collect Diet Cokes from the conference breaks because the hotel is too fancy to have a Coke machine.

I’ll be glad to be away while simultaneously counting the hours until my return, because I know everything will be there waiting when I get home.

I’ll just have to wash it, and, put it away.

Enjoy. I know exactly what you mean. However, as my husband and I say, you need to be gone in order for me to miss you.

Sometimes absence makes the heart grow fonder (or at least more appreciative!)

I know exactly what you mean! You get to go away, you only have yourself to look after and there’s no guilt! Because it’s work! If you take time for yourself at home, no matter how much you tell yourself it’s only fair that you get some me-time, you still feel guilty for “abandoning” the family. But if it’s work, somehow the guilt just doesn’t kick in. So much. Enjoy your trip!
