Surviving a visit to Santa
Santa is more popular the Elvis, Joe from Blue’s Clues, and even, yes it is true, Elmo. Your kids will probably want to go see him. Here are some tips to make the trip a little less chaotic.
- Go to the bathroom and change diapers before getting in line.
- Bring snacks and a water bottle.
- Go in the morning during the week before school is out for break. You can even call the location you are planning to visit and asking them what time of day is the least popular. That is when you should go.
- If possible, have two parents. When the kids get bored or have to go to the bathroom even though you just went 5 minutes ago, one of you can hold the spot in line while the other takes the kid(s). If both parents cannot go, try to make a playdate out of it with a neighborhood friend and their kids.
- Bring your own camera. A lot of places will let you take your own pictures. If they will not, remember that a lot of places will let your kids sit on Santa’s lap without requiring you to buy a picture. Over paying Santa for some pictures you waited an hour in line for is not much fun.
If you happen to know somebody with a Santa costume, you can always arrange a visit to your own house. We will be getting our second Christmas morning visit from Santa this year. You can’t beat that.
