School’s out for October?
I call the end of October, and, the beginning of November the period in which we pay full school tuition, yet our kids don’t actually go to school.
On Halloween, everyone could wear costumes, and, there was fun and games, so, I’m thinking that, as it should be on Halloween, not much learning was taking place.
The next day, Thursday, the kids were off school for All Saint’s Day. Sometimes, being a Catholic school kid rocks when you get the day after Halloween off.
Friday was a half day for Parent Teacher conferences, and, today is yet another half day for the same thing.
Throw in the fact that my 8th grader has had 2 high school visit days, and, each of the 3 kids has had a field trip in the last 2 weeks on top of that, you get some happy kids, and,. parents who are running out of child care ideas fast.

This was one of those unexpected side effects that really came back to bite us last year when we moved my daughter from a public school and after care provided by a separate business, to in school after care.
Turns out 1/2 days, and days for “in service” teacher programs, and other such events, not only does the school close early, but there is no aftercare available. We were caught running quite a bit. This year at least we are better prepared.

*sigh*
Just when you think you’ve got the delicate system all in place, you experience the joy of being kicked in the teeth.
