You say you want a resolution
Never one to rush things, I have still been giving thought to my New Year’s Resolutions.
And? Then it hit me right after I wrote that: this year I will stop thinking so much, and, start doing more. I realize it’s not really specific or measurable like a good goal should be, but, I think it’ll be OK.
For example, I have a good friend who is having her seventh child in the morning (yes, you read that right, seventh). The “old” me would spend time thinking of the right time to take the family and meal, and, agonizing over the menu hoping to please everyone and make it memorable.
The new me is going to go buy a lasagna and some salad, and, tell them I’m on the way over with dinner. Better choice all around, because this way, I’ll actually do it, and, besides, my mad cooking skillz aren’t all that, anyway.
The new me is also going to try to start feeling like the state of the house is “good enough” to go out and play with the kids. Before, my lists would have lists of what I needed to do to make the house acceptable enough to enjoy. Now, I will try with all my might to make sure we have some clean clothes, some food, and, some clean dishes, and, let the rest go more often than not.
Oh, and, this year, I’m going to try to fold the laundry as I take it out of the dryer, instead of balancing it in a heap while I think, “I should really fold that”.
Well, maybe I’ll start slow, and, work up to that.

If you start folding the laundry as it comes out of the dryer then I’ll have no excuse to not do the same thing! At least now, when I pile it and look at it as if it’s supposed to fold itself, I know I’m not the only one out there with same expectation!

We took an alternative approach with the laundry: the purchase of several more baskets, so the laundry is no longer stacked on top of the washer and dryer but compacted into several portable bins.

I had the same conversation with my fiance the other day. We get stuck in the “wanting” instead of just doing. As far as the laundry I like to muli task: laundry + music = folded laundry. Or just let it pile up.

I’ve got the laundry folding thing down pretty well. Maybe this year I’ll tackle the stack of dishes by the sink.

The laundry thing is a particular problem around here. Or I should say it WAS a problem until we got Netflix. Now, I don’t allow myself to watch the lovely movie that came in the mail unless I fold laundry while I do it. Viola! No more mounds of unfolded laundry, It is truly a miracle.
