Redefining “holiday”
I got all excited this morning because I figured I had hit the morning traffic at “just the right time”, and, as a bonus, I got a great parking space.
Then, it dawned on me that I had such a lovely commute because most everyone, including my entire family, is at home on this Good Friday (insert Spring time holiday of your choice here).
My husband is a teacher, so I have to work a lot of days that he and the kids have off, so, he can keep teaching, and, we can, you know, eat and stuff.
It took me a while to resolve my resentment about having to go to work on holidays and during the summer when he was off.
What? Have you ever read here that I’m mature?
Anyway, I eventually realized that my “holiday” is what I make of it.
On the mornings I can drive all the way to work without stopping at 2 different schools, the bank, and, goodness only knows where else, I might stop for a treat for myself (Starbuck’s loves me in the summer), or, sometimes I even get wild, go in a little early, and, read a book in the parking garage before work.
I know! I will age prematurely at this breakneck pace.
Someone stop me.

I do the same thing!! I work at a small business so we don’t take all those extra federal holidays, but several large companies in our building seem to. So, on say, Presidents Day, I get all psyched at how fast I zip in to work, and how I get the parking space right near the elevator. Then I go, oh, right.
On the plus side, several of our clients take all the federal holidays, so those tend to be big catch-up days for us.
