Parenting Awards
I’m not sure what I think about this: Peoria mom wins Working Parent award.
At first glance, it looks happy and positive, and, it is. But, after I thought about it, I realized it bothers me, in a way, too. I’ve long maintained that being a working parent is simply a reality for many people, no matter the reason. I tell people that where and how I spend my weekdays just “is what it is.”
I also struggle to show people that my life isn’t all that different from theirs, so the idea of an “award” for doing what you have to do just sits wrong with me, for some reason.
In realize this award may be for someone who have different struggles than I do, but, that’s just my first reaction.
How about you?
I’m still waiting for my Parent of the Year Award for not sending milk money for my youngest on his first day of kindergarten.
