Other people
At the risk of sounding like a working parent cliche, the past few days have been all about “so much to do, and, so little time to do it.”
We’re just going through one of those phases where it feel like all we do in the evenings is prepare for the next day. It almost makes you wonder what we are doing wrong, because, in my imagination, other people’s lives aren’t a mad dash to get through just the activities of daily living EVERY evening.
“Other people” finish dinner, homework, and, baths, and, have time to watch TV or play a game together. “Other people” take their kids out for a treat after dinner on a school night, and, are home in bed by 8:30. “Other people” have time for adult conversation after the kids go to bed, while we are still practicing what I call “Whack A Mole” bedtime, where once you get one kid settled down to sleep, another one pops up.
No, I’ve never met these “other people”, I’ve made them up, but, they still make me mad, isn’t that odd?
I find myself fantasizing about being able to take laundry to work in order to get it folded, and, being able to work on the car in the parking lot a lunch. I’m thinking that, in reality, both activities would be frowned upon at work, but, it doesn’t really say anywhere you can’t do it.
However, I know it’s just a phase, and, it will pass, though I doubt we’ll ever make it to bed at 8:30.

Wow.
I could have written this. This is my life right now.
I hate it. I don’t want to rush through my life, and wake up one day wondering, “How did all these grandchildren get here?”
