New Jersey enacts Paid Family Leave bill
On the heels of our discussion about paid family leave, I read that New Jersey recently became the third state in the United States to enact a paid family leave for workers to take up to six weeks off to care for newborn or newly adopted children as well as seriously ill family members.
While the Family Medical Leave Act has been around for awhile, it does not assure a paid leave, but this New Jersey law does.
I hope the trend continues.

It is interesting (if not sad) to note, that while I certainly would not want to “politicize” the issue, the three States that have enacted such things are “Blue” States. And even here in NJ, you can look at the subdivide of red and blue counties and with a certain degree of certainty find the Yea/Nay votes on this. It is worth considering, and asking your local reps about with voting season quickly coming upon us.
