Moms using the Internet to “have it all”
Is the Internet the answer to “having it all”?
A CNN article, Internet moms: Getting the best of both worlds looks at mothers who earn from home using the Internet.
It’s an interesting read even though it uses mom (as opposed to “parent”) again like the other article, and, it does cover the pros and cons of this type of arrangement.
I don’t mean to be developing a pattern here, don’t misunderstand. I don’t get into the “mommy wars” stuff, and, I’m not against moms, I am one. But, I find it condescending and annoying when used the way it’s used in the articles I’ve cited.
Anyway, I do wonder, though, how “moms” working from home using the Internet is different from the millions of web workers already out there doing their thing.

I would like to comment - The internet allows me to work from home for a large internet company. I previously worked in the office of a large internet company with a 40 minute commute.
Being able to work at home through the internet - I LOVE IP phones ;) means I have a flexibility I could not have within an office environment.
Even with a great employer who provided flex days - if a child was ill ( I have three at the time aged 10 months, a year and 5) my children didn’t make it to the dentist - I had to use ER for as I couldn’t get to a Dr appointment and back to work in a day.
I now have more flexibility and can even work from home when the kids (now aged 4 5 and 9) are home sick and though I use childcare- I also get to spend more one on one time with my children.
If you can find a job using your skills through a well established legitimate company - the internet can connect you into your job - while working from home in a way no simple home office with a phone and a fax machine could.

Yes, I have the Internet to work from home as well as everywhere else. The boundaries are definitely blurred. And I certainly have it all…except for the time to shower daily.

When I’ve done freezer cooking before, I forget about the stuff until it’s badly freezer burned. My family will not eat leftovers (psychological block). In the winter time, we do a lot of crock pot cooking - beans, roast, stew, etc. In the summer, we have a lot of chicken salad, sandwich and fruit dinners, etc.
