Making personal phone calls
I just this moment read a post somewhere asking when working parents have time to make phone calls. In a glaring example of memory failure or this cold overtaking my brain, I have no idea where I read it.
However, it struck a chord with me.
Like the mystery author said, when I’m at work it’s usually all about work, and when I’m at home it’s all about the kids, or I can’t get a turn on the phone and it’s hard for me to make personal calls.
I’ve developed a bad habit of taking care of personal calls during my commute in the mornings and afternoons. It’s a bad habit because I drive on said commute. I need to break myself of it because I have a teen who will be driving sooner rather than later, and I need to set a better example.
I leave the house too early to make calls before I set out for the day, and when I go to lunch at work I’m usually not in a place conducive to phone calls, and honestly? I’d rather eat.
My job is flexible enough where I can make a personal call or two if I need to, but many times I get too caught up in my work to give the call the attention it needs.
We all know what the evenings are like with young children, so I don’t make too many calls then, and it’s also not convenient because there are some calls that need to be made during business hours.
So, I just squeeze personal phone calls in wherever I can, but I admit I don’t get all of them in like I need to. I guess it’s one of those things that will get better when the kids get older.

I see nothing wrong with making calls on the commute (provided you have a bluetooth headset).
Like you, I generally fit them in where I can, or I eat at my desk at lunchtime and make calls between bites (but that usually leaves me with indigestion).
