Handling unplanned projects on the weekend
Most full time working parents try to spend more time with their kids on the weekend. What do you do when emergency projects come up? Find ways to include them.
This weekend the toilet broke. It was actually just a little reocurring leak that I got tired of fixing. So, I decided it was time to replace the toilet. Instead of me rushing out to the store by myself, we all went to Menards together. The kids started to get bored while picking out the toilet, but their reward came a few minutes later when we went to the playland section to let the kids play for a while. Then, we picked out a few special Christmas ornaments together.
Also, this weekend we needed to pick up our sewing machine that was in the shop for repairs. My wife had big plans to take our son to the store to try and get him to pick out a present for our daughter. But, we needed the sewing machine because my wife is making some pajama bottoms for the kids. So, I took daughter to the sewing machine store and gave her the important job of carring the claim ticket and giving it to the lady at the counter.
Two unexpected projects in one weekend that we were able to turn into opportunities to spend time with the kids. How do you handle unexpected events that pop up when you were planning on just sitting around and playing with your kids?

Your toilet experience brings memories of about a month ago here…..T and M ( plus Joe and I ) spend 4 hours in a cart at both Lowes and Home Depot trying to find an almond high rise toilet that would fit below the bathroom counter. They were so bored that they seemed stunned and didn’t even try to get out of the cart. I am glad to her that you were able to find one and move on in less than four hours. MOM
