Easy Thanksgiving craft to do with your kids
Our daughter came home from preschool with an amazingly simple Thanksgiving craft all of us busy parents can easily do with our kids.
Here is what you need for this Thanksgiving craft:
- 1 paper plate per kid. The plate needs to be bigger than one of their hands.
- Some glue
- Marker, crayon, or pencil
- Spices
Here is what you do:
- Trace your kids hand on the center of the paper plate.
- Draw some legs, a beak, and some eyes to magically convert this hand print into a turkey fit for the dinner table.
- Fill body of the turkey with glue.
- Pour spices all over the turkey
- Set aside to dry
A few notes:
- Try to use spices that are commonly used around Thanksgiving. You can explain which spices go in which foods.
- You could use paper instead of a plate, but with all the glue, it will weigh a little bit. Also, it is pretty easy to keep the mess under control on a plate.
- This note is from my wife. Try to use cheap spices (you can even try to get some from the dollar store) because some spices are fairly expensive.
- Make sure you spend some time smelling the spices.
The entire project can be completed and cleaned up in about 15 minutes. If you do this project and take some pictures, let me know where you post them and I’ll add a link to the picture.
UPDATE: Here’s a picture since it makes it so much easier to see what I am trying to describe above.

My pleasure. I’m thinking about doing more posts like this so that it will help remind me to do little things like this with my kids. Sometimes we just get so busy….

Excellent! We’ll have to do that this weekend. Except that… well, moving from the Middle East and not having any money… we don’t have any spices. Perhaps we’ll go do this at my mother’s house. ;-)
