Christmas memories
Like many people, during the holidays, despite my full-time job, I have this fantasy of making the time a winter wonderland and a Christmas fantasy come true for the kids.
But, for whatever reason, it doesn’t always turn out that way.
However, that’s hard to do when I’ve come home from work lately only wanting my pipe and slippers (note: there is an end to this awful time at work, and, I really will cease whining about it).
In my fantasy, my Christmas clad cherubs and I will listen to carols, decorate the tree and bake cookies to distribute to all our friends.
I used to wish I had more time at home instead of work to make it come true as I worked extra hard to create these idyllic scenarios in the evenings and on the weekends.
However, over the years, I’ve discovered the reality is that the boys are done with tree decorating and they disappear after hanging about 3.2 ornaments each.
I don’t blame them, though, my daughter who is in charge of everything in her path at 13, sometimes makes it hard for anyone to do anything right.
Additionally, I’m pretty sure they’re all allergic to the Christmas tree, too.
They are also just as content eating the things that I bake so it doesn’t interfere with the watching of the Nickelodeon, but, every now and then they humor me and act like they’re interested in baking.
I’ve learned it’s got nothing to do with work, and, everything to do with what’s real. I have no idea what they will remember about Christmas when they are grown, I’m sure I don’t remember the things my parents thought I would.
But, just in case, I may stop for slice and bake cookies this evening and get wild and cook them on a weeknight.

My kids are the opposite and all up in my rear end to do some baking. Of course, some of that has to do with the fact that I inherited my Mom’s Christmas cookie cutters hand made by my Dad (I will post pics on my blog if we get them done) and they are hell bent on making some of grandma’s cookies this weekend.
I just have to figure out when with all the shopping that remains to be done -egads!
